VILNIUS, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) — Early voting for Lithuania’s parliamentary elections began on Tuesday and will continue for three days.
According to Lithuania’s Central Electoral Commission (VRK), polling stations in all 60 municipalities are open between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. (0400-1700 GMT) from Tuesday to Thursday.
At Vilnius’ central Lukiskes Square, one of the capital’s five early voting sites, a dozen voters lined up before the polls opened in the morning.
According to reports by the Baltic News Service (BNS), some voters said they expect “honest, diligent, responsible, and stable work” after the election while some said they chose a “classic party” over more radical ones.
The main election will be held on Sunday, with 14 political parties and one coalition competing for seats in the parliament, the Seimas. A total of 1,740 candidates will be running. Nearly 2.4 million voters are eligible to cast their ballots, according to the VRK. ■
